Background

A leading educational publisher in South Africa creating world-class educational content for learners from pre-school to Grade 12 had a requirement to create digital assets. The project involved the design and development of one-of-a-kind English Home Language Grade 4 animations. Project Details

The project involved creating 22 English Home Language Grade 4 animations for teaching new concepts including worked examples, simulations, and interactive activities with feedback. To ensure a uniform look and feel, all assets had to be developed in compliance with specified asset style guidelines. All the artwork/scenes involved in animation had to be created by incorporating culture sensitivity standards suitable to the South African market. Besides this, voice overs had to be recorded and added to animation ensuring that the quality of the audio was above standard. Video clips in different formats to suit different digital environments was the expected output delivery format. For diacriTech team, the challenge was about meeting the volume and complexity levels of artwork requirements plus testing responsive design on all devices; a time consuming task within the expected turnaround time.

The first step was allocating a team of experienced professionals (HTML5 animation developers and Graphic Designers) to carry out the task. diacriTech's cloud-based ERP system played a key role to adeptly integrate resources with the relevant tasks. The assets were developed using HTML5, jQuery, and CSS3. The graphics team worked commendably on getting each batch of artwork corresponding to a video approved. A standard procedure was used to ensure that the images were created as per customer's specification before proceeding with development of animation. Integrating UX and Instructional Design principles regarding multimedia, contiguity, personalization, and feedback was essential to craft an effective digital learning experience. Technical and functional level checks for all assets were carried out by developers, testers, and Quality Assurance Group at relevant stages. A dedicated project manager, also the primary conduit for day to day communications with client managed and tracked the feedback-driven changes effectively.

Result
